Susan Wefald
Susan Wefald, who served on the North Dakota Public Service Commission for 16 years and is a violinist in the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony, enjoys serving on non-profit boards, reading, gardening and writing. A graduate of the University of Michigan, she received her MA in Public Administration from the University of North Dakota. Susan is the author of Spectacular North Dakota Hikes—Bring the Dog (2011), which received the Notable Documents Award from the North Dakota Library Association and Important Voices—North Dakota ‘s Women Elected State Officials Share Their Stories, 1893–2013 (2014). Susan has also written articles for North Dakota History, The Journal of the Northern Plains including “Remembering ‘Our Boys’—North Dakota’s World War I Monuments and Memorials, 1918–1941” (2018) and “Convincing the Men—North Dakota’s Women Suffrage Campaign 1912–20.” (2019) She and her husband Bob enjoy exploring North and South Dakota and learning about the region’s history.
