On Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, from 2-4pm author Sean J. Flynn will be at Prairie Pages in Pierre, SD, talking about and signing his new book.

"Without Reservations" is the primer biography of the first Lakota Congressman, Benjamin ("Ben") Reifel, who served throughout the 1960s.

A bilingual member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, Reifel often found his ideas challenged by American Indian activists. He advocated for his people to become self-reliant citizens, not by abandoning traditional values, but through education and integration. In the end, Reifel viewed himself as a modern Indian leader, versed in his native tongue and culture, college educated, and looking beyond reservation boundaries.

Flynn, a graduate of South Dakota State University, earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in history from Texas Tech University. Since 1999, he has served as professor of history at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, South Dakota. He is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe and descended of the Lakota leader Spotted Tail. In addition to articles on American Indian history, his publications include Chief, Marine Corps Warrior: The Life of John P. “Pat” Flynn, Jr., a biography of his father, one of the few American Indian aviators to fly combat missions in World War II and Korea.
