The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International promotes professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
The Northwest Regional Conference of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will be held June 28-July 1, 2017 at the Spearfish Holiday Inn and Convention Center in Spearfish South Dakota. The theme is Leading Women Educators Impacting Education World Wide, and the 2017 NW Regional Conference speakers exemplify the underlying concept that ALL things are connected in some way. The conference keynote speakers have backgrounds and careers connected to leadership in various ways: through psychology and adolescent brain research, by supporting others through suicide prevention, in publishing and editing historical works (specifically Laura Ingalls Wilder of the Little House novels), by pursuing educational leadership roles as a university dean or university president, as a member of the US Congress and senior advisor to large defense and scientific companies, and as a member of a team of scientists who work in a cutting edge Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL). Beside the keynote speakers in General Sessions and at meals, the Conference will be filled with various breakout sessions (workshops) and a new feature to the Conference, the Ten Minute Takeaway Sessions, intense ten-minute sessions of varying topics that will take place between breakout sessions. The US Forum and Canadian Forum will also provide information on current social issues facing the US and Canada.
Conference attendees are invited to visit Spearfish and the surrounding areas through tours that will be available from the local tour agency. Some of the sites available will be Mount Rushmore, Spearfish Canyon, the Badlands, Lead-Deadwood Area, and other places in Wyoming. Participants wishing to earn the 30 professional development clock hours must register on the conference registration form, and then online at paec.org/deltakappagamma. At the conference, the participant must attend three general sessions and either the U.S. or Canadian Forum, three meal functions at which there is a speaker, five breakout sessions as well as at least two of the four 10-minute takeaway sessions. Following the conference the participant must go online and complete the follow up exercise no later than September 30, 2017.
